SPRING CLEANING!! My favorite time of the year!!

I know, I'm weird. You are probably looking at this title and saying to yourself...who in their right mind loves to clean their house from top to bottom? (ok, honestly, not me...but, I do love the END RESULT!) I am one of those people that loves to rearrange, it makes me feel like I got a bunch of new stuff (without the guilty over-shop, over-spent feeling).

This is the method to my Spring Cleaning madness - first of all, my house looks like a wreck for a month and then miraculously, it all snaps back together and looks fabulous! (at least to me, it does! :)

1.  I go into the room and purge the junk - store, move to another part of house, consign or give away
2. Go through every drawer and get rid of anything that I don't use/wear/broken. Refold &/or rearrange all the drawers. Clean all the cabinetry inside and out.
3. Wash everything that is washable - walls, drapes, baseboards, etc.
4. Rearrange the room moving in furniture or lamps from other parts of the house. Change around colors such as new rugs or hand-towels.
5. Add items that are needed to make that room or area work. First of all, shop your house! I currently have a pile of decorative stuff that I want OUT of the kitchen...it is all lined up next to my banister. While working on other rooms and I have need of something, I shop the lineup first (and then, maybe take a quick spin around the house)...then, and only then, if nothing is found that is right, do I add it to my list of "to-buy" items.

One of my favorite "shop your home" stories happened about a year ago. My hubby and I were fed up with the pileup on our dining room table. So, we went to Ikea...out to purchase some nice storage for our mudroom. We found a fabulous set, but it would have cost $1000. We decided to think about it. Once we got home, we started looking around at what we have here. Two matching white cabinets (that were currently storing games...NOT HIGH PRIORITY STORAGE!!) How didn't we think of these perfect cabinets? So, that very night...I coerced my husband into moving these cabinets up from the lower level. All we purchased was a table top that we attached to the wall that connected both cabinets to each other and also gave us a landing spot for items as we come in from the garage. Now, a year later...it is easier to put our things away in our mudroom than to drop them on the kitchen table! yea! So, don't forget...shop your home first!

6. Wash all glass - decorative stuff as well as windows in and out.
7. Change seasonal cleaning clothing.
8. Normal cleaning stuff - I just keep up my routine so it doesn't get too out of hand.

(mind you, this is not a COMPREHENSIVE list, such as clean your fridge, etc...just wanted to jot down some things about spring cleaning that I feel are important.)

Hope you all are getting invigorated to freshen up your home, so that  you can enjoy the spring and summer season!
